How To Choose The Right MT Course

Looking for a good medical transcription course can be tricky. There are so many different MT schools popping up all over the place, and a lot of online schools too. It’s definitely a difficult choice and you should take your time before making any commitments.

Remember, the better your training the better your earning opportunities will be. So keeping that in mind, it’s really important to choose the best medical transcription school possible.

So just how do you choose a good medical transcription school?

If you’ve decided a traditional school course is right for you, then start having a look around your local area. Ask other MTs where they were trained. Look in the yellow pages and the internet and make a list of all the local community colleges and technology schools in your area.

Call each school individually and ask them to mail you information on their medical transcription courses. Then narrow it down to a few schools you feel area good fit for you.

While deciding ask yourself some questions such as – Can I go to school on the days and times required? Is it too far? Will I be able to stick with a course for that long? Can I afford it?

Once you have your list of schools, call them up and make an appointment to visit. This will give you a better feel of the school before making any commitments. Remember, good schools are always willing to take the time to show you around and answer your questions. If the staff isn’t happy to take a few minutes to speak to you then how will they treat you once you’re a student.

Here’s a list of things to look for once you visit the school:

What subjects are included in the course?

A good MT program should include word processing & typing, medical terminology (various levels), anatomy (at a general level), pharmacology (introduces you to different medications), grammar/English, and lots of hands on transcribing.

Do they have job placement assistance or Internship?

The upshot of choosing a school course is they usually have job placement. It can be difficult to get a job without real experience so job placement is important.

An internship is almost as good as job placement. Your school places you at a location to work (as part of your course training). You will not earn any money during this training but it is great hands on real experience. Sometimes, the employer may even hire you after your training. They will also give you a reference which you could use to find future work.

What are their success rates?

What have some of their students gone on to do? Are they working as MTs? You could also ask what percentages of students actually receive the job training. Good schools will have statistics of how well the course worked for their students.

How much is the course and is there payment assistance?

Most schools are pretty good about funding issues. They will usually have in place certain schemes where you can get discounts depending on your situation. Some have a sliding scale fee which means their fees are based on your income.

You may also find scholarships or the school will have a payment plan in place. This will allow you to break your payments down into smaller chunks. With some schools you don’t have to pay back the remaining amount until 6 months after your course finishes. They may also have reduced interest rates.

What to look for in Online Courses?

If you decide an online course is right for you, then ask all the same questions as you would for a traditional school course. Job placement assistance is a bit more difficult with an online course but you should receive a letter of reference you could use to find local work.

Whichever method of training you receive, you can find your own work right away. This is sometimes easier than starting with a big online company. You can send a letter or visit your local doctors and offer to type a free report or tape. This will show them you can do the work before either of you make any commitments.

Medical Transcription Schools - Avoiding Online Scams

Medical transcription is a lucrative profession which allows you the flexibility to work from home. Unfortunately, it’s this appeal that has opened the doors for less than honest online medical transcription schools.

If you don’t know a lot about MT, then I will assure you it is a real profession and a real possibility. It is not a get rich quick scheme or overnight money maker.

If you’re shopping around for an online medical transcription course, here are a few things to keep in mind.

How to choose the right course and avoid scams

Make sure the company offering the course is reputable and has been around for a long time. You can do this by checking with the Better Business Bureau. Here are a few other things to look for.

Send the school an email asking a question about their course. If they respond promptly in a professional matter that’s a good sign. If they seem overly pushy be a bit weary.

Look at their website. Is it professional? Do they give you statistics about their success rates, student testimonials, Q and A section?

Do they have an online student log in area or online support if you have questions?

Are their company details listed on their website? Such as how long they’ve been in business, contact details (mailing address and phone number).

Do they make exaggerated promises about their course? If they are promising you will make a lot of money in a short time, then be careful. No one can really predict how much you will make or how long it will take you. They should give general statistics and figures in an unbiased way.

Do they provide financial aid or payment assistance?

Do they have a list of graduates or companies which have hired their graduates?

Do they give you updates of students who have graduated from their school?

Do they have a student message board, a newsletter or information which will make you feel part of a community?

Studying from home can be lonely at times, a reputable course will offer you assistance from the very beginning until you find a job.

Linguistics of Visual Submodalities

This article is about verbal way of quick and efficient change of visual submodalities. Master it and you will get a powerful linguistic tool of influence.

The idea came from curiosity, motivation and dissatisfaction connected with predicates I was learning about - this was never enough, just to know the words which belonged to visual, audio or kinesthetic systems; themselves they gave no possibility to influence someone and were maybe useful for getting some rapport.

So once a group of us - which included apart from me Adam Debowski and one anynomous friend - gathered and spent quite some time to discover verbal phrases which profoundly influenced submodalities. It also lead us to discover a bit more of what Richard has been doing for years during his seminars (like for example: Hold that thought!).

It was all about finding common, popular, every-day language "street" phrases, which could then be used on clients without their conscious awereness. Hence, their mental process would be influenced and their behaviors changed - all these by unnoticable change of submodalities. Add sensory acuity and SMEAC`s to it and I believe you`ll be able to achieve a lot with this.

I prepared a list of Visual submodalities and gave each of them a set of phrases you can use. Audio and kinesthetics will be presented some time later.

Bear in mind English is my second language - I`m sure there`s much more to dicover.

Dissociation - you know, I understand you, I went through this myself once. But later I looked at myself from the side and stopped. Do you see what you are doing? Just look at yourself. And what, does Bill (his name is Bill) like it? Just look at us - we`re sitting here and chatting, just think what it would be like if you yourself were in this situation.

Using your client`s name while talking to them is probably the most common conversational technique I use to dissociate them. Does Reader of this text see it?Smile

Association - wait, see this from your perspective - isn`t that different? Look through your eyes, now enter this picture and what it`s like, when you are in this situation? what do you think about it? Enjoy the moment and identify even more with it, when you see it with your own eyes.

Film - wow, when you are talking about this I feel it`s like a movie! All thoughts move, man, slow down! Or maybe accelerate! You need more movement in this, you see..

Come back! Reverse to the very beginning! And now move till the end. Step back a bit, it`s ok. And move on fast!

The above piece, starting with come is to me a masterpiece of therapeutic intervention - fast phobia cure. You can start with how you were in the cinema, you insert the above conversationally and without any conscious awereness phobia will be gone. We really enjoyed using this o phobics, since people are absolutely shocked that they don`t feel old fears anymore and don`t know how come!

Slide - when you think about this, you know what, wait for a second. I sometimes say to myself: stop, hold still, and pause for a while. As if you freeze it - steady vision.

When we did slide submodality, we were shocked to discover how Richards`s "hold that thought" works; he used it so many times and consciously poeple don`t know what it does to pictures and kinestethics.

Big - since when I came here, all the time my curiosity is growing. I want you to enlarge yours as well, see the great size of opportunities. Widden your vision and make it big, so that you see all. Widespread all of it. You know what it`s like when you have panoramic views and enlarge on them?

Small - Eeeeee, what kind of problems, they seem tiny to me. Make sure you don`t dwindle / drop away / decrease / wane / grow less / diminish / lessen / reduce / abate / lighten / relieve / extenuate / decrease / halve them. Don`t narrow them! Then everything gets smaller and shrinks. Yeah, big as sand grain.

Far - those ideas, yeah, away with them! Behind the horizon, far away from here. Move them further.. I know they seem to run away by themselves. It`s good to have them behind yourself. Then we`ll see what`s next.

Close - it`s all because these ideas are coming to you. Hear (ambuity with here) them? New options arise, you have them in front of you! Get them closer, these are good things. This is a great one, really. First focus well, then just the best one. Now!

Obviously, what has been already discovered, there`s a huge difference between this/these and that/those - important to be remembered and used effectively.

Shape - listen pal, why don`t you make a nice, panoramic movie. No, not this way, think about it a bit longer, widden your vision! Yeah, that`s a nice picture. Get round to it!

Basically we found panoramic and square pictures to be the most useful, so didn`t focus on other shapes.

Borders - all right put into a different frame - sure, bigger, why smaller? I know, I know, there are some limitations and borders which shouldn`t be crossed, but make sure you do it differently.

Important notice - panoramic pictures by nature are not bordered, so people can`t get "framed" or "limited" in any way - that`s why it`s crucial to suggest this to them.

Position - put it aside, why to have it in front of your eyes? Isn`t it better to have it behind? Move across this problem and see how you pretend you can notice it..

Last sentence is a good one - makes problem small enough they can cross over it, dissociates them when they see how they are pretending they can notice it; when they try again to associate with it, it will be an attempt in vain.

3D - see the depth of the situation, yeah, look deeper. It`s profound, right? What do you see in it?

2D - see this picture, what`s there?

Now, in Polish you can say both "on" and "in" the picture - I guess "on the picture" is a mistake in English, but saying "on" automatically makes images flat and "in" gives them 3D.

Colors - no way, this is like black and white to me! No, it`s not colourful, but grey! How am I suppose to see it in warm colors? It`s so pale, all this.

Contrast - Tell me once more, I want to see it clearly. All seems so blurred. Almost invisible, shapeless. Just blank.

Number of images - put these two aside, these are two different things. Let`s set the priorities which one goes first. Start with ... then... and finally... Let`s deal with them seperately. You can`t combine them!

An now my version of torpedo therapy, not for the faint - hearted. Make sure you consciously follow submodalities change.

Pal, just f... it, how long can you go through the roof because of that? I don`t give a shit, come down, don`t live with your head in the clouds! This all spins and turns upside down and my pictures are inside out..

I used it once with a client with a "serious" problem and after a few sentences they just couldn`t come back to the old way of seeing things.

Enjoy and develop.

Technical Schools: Making the Right Choice for Your Future

In today’s employment environment, it is more important than ever to be well schooled if you work or want to work in a technical field. It is not enough to have an interest, a desire or even a working knowledge of the vocation that you want to pursue.

Technology is changing faster than at any other time in history; an employer needs to know that you have what it takes to persevere in this competitive work environment. The best way to prove yourself is to earn a degree from a technical school that specializes in your field.

An education in technology often begins several years before a student is ready to enroll in a technical school. Students are often exposed to technology as a subject in high school; this is a good environment for the students to decide if they want to pursue this as a career option. If they do, after graduation, they have the option of attending a traditional university with a technical major, a brick and mortar technical school or even taking some classes online.

While most traditional universities will have a solid technical school with in them, they can be cost and time prohibitive, especially if you are an older adult looking for a career change. For students who find that money and time are an issue, it may be wise to focus on a type of school that focuses solely on technology, as the curriculum is pinpointed to only the major being studied, without other elective classes be mandatory for graduation from the program.

Regardless of the type of school you decide to attend, there are some considerations to keep in mind. You will want to be sure that the school you choose has been accredited by a recognized national agency for technology. If it is not your degree or certificate will not be worth much in the work place.

You will want to be able to visit the school, if you plan to stay on campus, this is especially important. You are looking for features of the school or the student life that appeal to you and your personality. This visit will probably require an appointment, but should not be difficult to complete.

While you are conducting your visit, ask about issues such as crime rate at the school, if previously completed coursework from another institution will transfer over, if they have their state licensing.

It is always a good idea to check out more than one technical school before making your final decision, if it is at all possible. This will allow you to make an informed decision that could affect the rest of your life.

Frequently Asked Questions About Becoming a Private Investigator

How do I become a private investigator?

That’s a complicated question with several parts that largely depend upon in which state you plan on working. You have two options; you either work for a licensed private investigations agency or you go to work for yourself and obtain your own PI company license. Either way, you there are two considerations you must address at some point:

The first consideration is licensing; all but only a handful of states require a state-issued license to be a private investigator. Each state has different background, education and experience requirements that may vary from simply attending a state-approved training course to pre-licensing education, exams, years of work experience and obtaining a sizable professional liability insurance policy with “errors and omissions” coverage. To make matters just a little more confusing, there are some cities that require private investigators to either register or obtain a municipal license in states that do not otherwise require them.

The second consideration is training. Private investigation specific training is the most important investment you can make in yourself! Since most new PIs don’t have the ability or are not ready to start up their own investigations company you will most likely be looking for employment with an established agency. As an owner of an established and well respected detective agency I get resumes all of the time; the first thing I look for before considering a candidate is to ask the question, “How has this person invested in themselves before asking me to invest in them?”

What if I do not have the minimum experience required by the state to obtain my own company license? How will I ever break into the industry?

If your goal is to eventually own your private investigations agency, no problem… every state that requires experience also has a program in place to see that new investigators have access to eventually obtaining their own license. For example, in Texas where we hold an agency license those who are too new simply go to work for an established company until they have the required number of hours to be able apply for their own license. In Florida (where we also have an agency license) they specifically provide internship licenses. Again, every state is a little bit different but thousands of successful private investigators are working today and tens of thousands have come before us; we all had to get started someplace… you can too.

Also, consider your own background and employment related experience carefully some of it may apply. I have known loss prevention agents, security guards (in specific roles), accountants, firemen, bail bondsmen, alarm installers, teachers, and even a librarian use their previous employment experiences to apply for their own agency license.

What type of training should I be looking into?

Any amount of training is great though most PI companies don’t place a whole lot of credibility with the courses from PCDI, Harcourt, and Thompson Direct. You could honestly do much better and at less cost.

Instead, look for academies or training programs that have been created by private investigators. Who knows better about what a new or an aspiring private detective needs to know than an investigator who has been in the field for a considerable amount of time?

Also… look to see that the sponsoring company is active in the industry as well. Are they still providing regular private investigative services to a robust clientele? It’s sad, but many PIs who wash out over a very short period of time in the business look to teaching. In reality, you will learn very little from those who could not make it themselves; success breeds success!

Lastly, I have a little secret I would like to share with you...

Look over the education provider’s entire website and see if you find boastful claims or where the company is bashing other educators. This is a very tight-knit industry and you will find that students who complete training programs from educators that spend time “bad mouthing the competition” have a terrible time getting a break simply because of the animosity created through their educator’s use of negative advertising. I know that seems unfair but it is a reality in this business. This does not mean, however, that you should dismiss the negative press but the first thing an excellent private investigator learns is how to evaluate a claim, identify the source and make a judgment based on additional facts and research. Some statements will have merit while others will not; it’s up to you to make that decision.

What is the difference between a private investigator and a private detective?

Nothing. The terms are used interchangeably but some states choose to use the term “detective” while most use the term “investigator.”

I really just want to help my friends and family to find old friends or people who owe them money. Do I need a PI license?

That’s a great question. Generally speaking, in those states where it is a requirement you will need to obtain a license if you hold yourself out for hire or accept payment from another person or business and participate in or provide the following services:

• Surveillance

• Obtaining or furnish information related to a crime or the identity, habits, business, occupation,
knowledge, movement, location, affiliations, associations, transactions, acts, reputation, or character of a person, group or company.

• Securing evidence for use before a court, board, officer, or committee

• Locating or recovering lost or stolen property and unclaimed funds.

• Determining the cause or responsibility for a fire, libel, loss, accident, damage, or injury to a person or to property.

Some states may specifically include such things as service of process, bail enforcement, personal protection and genealogical research under those activities that require a private investigator’s license as well.

Do I have to have a degree in Criminal Justice from a college or university?

No, though some states may accept a degree in Criminal Justice, Administration of Justice or Police Sciences in lieu of the minimum experience requirements. One recent study conducted on behalf of the Virginia Department of Justice concluded that almost 57% of all private investigators do not have a college education.

If I do not have a college education do I have to have a background as a police officer or other law enforcement related profession?

No. Most private investigators do not have a law enforcement background before entering into this industry. It is true that many private investigators may have once had a career in criminal justice but the bottom-line is that private investigation and law enforcement is very different and my experience has been that very few who make the transition from law enforcement are prepared for this type of work, either technically or creatively, on their own. Most of them recognize this and seek industry specific training as well.

What type of person makes a successful private investigator?

This business requires a rare blend of logic and creativity; it’s rare because logical people tend to not be very creative and vice-versa.

I would say that any successful detective must first have the ability to communicate. This means that he or she must have the ability to connect with people of all walks of life, regardless of economic status, ethnicity or education. It also means that the investigator must have the ability to clearly present a simple fact or a complex investigation in writing. The end result of an investigation is the investigative report, which is given to the client upon conclusion of the assignment; this is essentially our work product. If you cannot write reasonably well, your reputation will surely suffer as a result.

Secondly, great investigators have a burning desire to answer any question that is put to them only after a careful and determined effort to identify the facts and circumstances that contribute to a complete and unbiased explanation. We are in the business to provide facts, not opinions; we let our clients draw their own conclusions from our report. Oftentimes in order to get to those facts, we must be relentless in our pursuit of information. This is where logic meets creativity. Dead-ends often only require a different approach!

Lastly, I believe that every investigator should possess a varied set of experiences and knowledge. One characterization of the private detective industry I can make is that by and large we represent a vastness of experience, skills, and trades. One of the most accomplished investigators I have ever met listed “Mom” on her resume. When she decided to become a private investigator she had no appreciable skills that she could put in her resume but through her own experiences she had developed an intuition that was almost never wrong and she could simplify complex problems into there most basic parts. I have personally hired a plumber, building contractor, car salesman, and a host of other seemingly unrelated career types into my own company, CompassPoint Investigations, because they had certain intangibles that made them great in this business!

The bottom line is that anyone can train to become a wildly successful private investigator, just like one can train to become a barber or an attorney, but an aspiring detective has to bring some things to the table that cannot be easily taught: creativity, logic, the ability to communicate and an insatiable curiosity!

I have a criminal conviction in my background from many years ago. Will this affect my ability to become a private eye?

Every state that requires a license to be a PI also requires a background investigation as a part of the licensing process. I believe that a felony conviction will be an automatic disqualification in almost every instance (though I know a felon who has a PI license issued by the city of Columbus, MO.), while misdemeanors may be considered depending upon the crime, its seriousness and the amount of time that has passed since the conviction; again this will vary by state.

Will my military discharge affect my ability to become a private investigator?

In some cases a discharge that is anything but honorable may prevent you from becoming a PI. Just as in the answer to the criminal conviction history above, some states require PI applicants be free from negative military discharge classifications- Bad Conduct Discharge, Less than Honorable or Other Than Honorable service characterizations are grounds for denial of a PI license in several states and jurisdictions.

Perhaps the Florida Division of Licensing put it best: “Private investigators and private investigative agencies serve in positions of trust. Untrained and unlicensed persons or businesses, or persons not of good moral character, are a threat to the public safety and welfare. The private investigative industry is regulated to ensure the interests of the public are adequately served and protected.”

Can I just specialize in a particular type of investigation or will I have to do the surveillances and cheating spouse investigations too?

I absolutely recommend that investigators find their niche and specialize in only a few types of investigations! There are several important reasons for this, which I discuss in my training programs, but it can be summed up this way: when you are the most notable investigator in your region of the country for a specific type of investigation, you will find MANY additional opportunities to make a lot more money than if you advertise yourself as a “jack of all trades.” This has been proven across the country time and time again and is a major topic of discussion in our upcoming private investigation marketing manual.

What types of assignments do private investigators typically take?

Wow, the options are endless and the subject really deserves its own entire section! I have listed the most obvious types of private investigator assignments in an article you can find by going to my Articles Page. I will eventually briefly describe each type of investigation in the next couple of weeks. Continue to check in as we are constantly making additions.

What type of investigation or specialty assignment pays the most?

I don’t know that anyone can answer that question definitively, but I will say that surveillance is typically the most lucrative type of assignment a private investigator can get because it is solid, billable, blocks of time. I am aware that there are particular types of investigations where investigators are making anywhere between $300 and $500 an hour for activities like forensic computer evaluation, security consulting, automobile repossession, and a few others specialties. I personally have made $10,000 in an hour on several occasions in 14 years doing bail fugitive recovery work, those types of paydays are few and far between. Overall I average almost $150 an hour while engaged in bail enforcement, not too bad by most people’s standards, though many investigators just don’t have the stomach for that type of work. It can be extremely dangerous, it is a very competitive field and you get paid only if you can complete the case.

Is private investigation dangerous work?

Obviously, there are some PI jobs that are more dangerous than others like collateral repossession or bounty hunting but, generally speaking, private investigation is not a dangerous job. We all have heard the stories of PIs getting caught while on surveillance by an irate cheating husband or being chased out of a yard at the business end of a shotgun while serving a subpoena. Most episodes of Magnum PI had Tom Selleck dodging bullets, too. Certainly, scary things can and do happen on rare occasions but like all war stories, the ones that seem to get a lot of attention play out more like fiction than reality. Safety is always at the forefront of every trained investigator’s mind.

How Do You Pick the Best Real Estate School

Real estate agents are required to be licensed before conducting any business. Online training is available in most states to complete your pre-license course.

What kind of Real Estate License School?

Be cautious when picking a school. Some schools are somewhat new and have written their own online courses. Look for courses which are written by authors who are recognized. For example: Gaines, Coleman, & Crawford.

How long time does it take to get a Real Estate License?

Look for online schools that allow you a full year to complete your pre license course. Some schools offer you just a few months to complete, and that can be a problem if you run into trouble during the course. You will get to learn: property basics, ownership transfer, real estate law, math, contracts and escrow.

How about support from the Real Estate License School?

Look for online school that offer 24 hour 7 Day a week instructor support. Some schools offer you a 24 to 72 hour call back or email reply, and that can be a long time to wait for reply.

What happens after your course?

The pre license course gives you the credit you need in order to become a professional licensed Real Estate Sales Associate (Salesperson). And after completing the pre license course online you have met the educational prerequisite to sit for the State Exam.

After you have completed training and become a licensed Real Estate Agent, there will be ongoing continuing education requirements. The usual minimum is 15 hours or so every 2 years more or less depending on your state.

A real estate career can be a wonderful and rewarding career. Training step-by-step comes first and training in the real world comes second. If you are persistent and do the work, then you are on your way to the Promised Land of great success.

They Only Do It Because They're Allowed to Get Away With It...

It can’t be denied anymore - the shortage of time served tradesmen (or should that be tradesperson in these enlightened times) has led to a massive increase in unqualified site workers.

A recent survey has confirmed the long held suspicion that the qualified site tradesman is now a dwindling commodity. The study reveals that for every 1000 carpenters found operating on site during the year 2005, just over one in three of that number - 377 to be precise - was a qualified tradesperson.

Another disturbing tend to emerge from the findings is that far from seeking out the true professional during times of a recession as one might expect, the exact opposite was found to be true, the move being justified by a number of employers on financial grounds.

Are we to be surprised then at these findings? - I don't think so.

There can be no doubt that successive years of chronic under funding have contributed exponentially to the crisis that we find before us in the building Industry today. That old saying of what you sow, so shall you reap has never been more apt.

To put the record straight, there always have been, just as there always will be, certain individuals who are prepared to step into the breach to fill the labour shortages that have been known to afflict the Construction Industry from time to time. But let’s be quite clear about this: the reason that these ‘cowboys’* are growing in number is because they are being allowed to fill the void created by the loss of the qualified worker. And who can blame them for trying?

Nobody should ever have the right to deny anybody else the opportunity to earn a living providing that they can get away with it. And that, surely, has to be the key point here - the very fact that they can and do get away with it all too often!

*Do you know why they call them cowboys? -

It’s because of the trail that they leave behind them!

Paradoxically, it is the actions of these cowboys that give us hope for the future.

Far from decrying the activities of these ‘chancers’, what we should be doing is congratulating them instead for drawing our attention towards the sad decline of standards that exists at the present time. The knock on effect of their actions is to force us to take a look long hard look at what is happening in the Construction Industry today. Armed with this knowledge we can, if we choose not to ignore it, as has happened so often in the past, take the opportunity to make plans to improve on the current situation and secure the construction industry’s future for generations to come.

That brings us to the question of how best to go about it?

Well the first thing is to do is get rid of the patently false idea that an easy solution is just waiting around the corner - you don’t need to be a clairvoyant to know that isn’t going to happen!

The long term view is that only a sustained effort over a lengthy period of time, let’s say 8 years, would be enough to completely reverse things as they stand today.

But what of the short term? Is there nothing we can do now that will help bring that date a little bit closer?

In my view, the answer to both those questions is a resounding yes!

The first course or action must be for the Government to reintroduce a suitable training scheme to encourage those that want to learn the trade the opportunity to do just that. Getting the legislation passed won’t be an easy task I grant you, but as long as the impetus exists to drive it through there is no real reason why the scheme couldn’t be up and running within a year.

Wishful thinking perhaps? - far from it!

Providing it was conducted in the right way I see no reason why we couldn’t be seeing the results of this initiative on site within as little as 3 years.

The second responsibility lies with the construction companies themselves.

If all of the main contractors adopted a policy of only employing qualified tradespeople, (or alternatively, those with provable experience), and made a point of rejecting sub-standard work, it would undoubtedly go a long way to restoring the industry’s credibility.

Based as it is on a rather simplistic view of the problems faced by the Industry, I’d have to agree that the latter suggestion isn’t really a practical alternative - the very nature of things conspire to make it unworkable.

We find ourselves in a catch 22 situation of our own making - how can the Construction Industry recruit their labour from a force that no longer exists?

The answer, of course, is that it can’t!

My own modest contribution to the future regenerating of the industry (and once again I stand indebted to the cowboys for making it possible), is The Carpentry Insider, a site practice manual compiled from my own 28 years in the game. It was written in the hope that it would at least go someway toward closing the gap that exists between those tradesmen who already have the experienced knowledge and those many individuals who seek to attain it!

Securities License

If you are looking to break into the securities industry or work for a broker-dealer, there are certain securities licenses that you should keep in mind.

People who are currently outside the business or graduating from college are well served in this job market to get some license training and completion.

The NASD

The NASD is the National Association of Securities Dealers. Broker Dealers who are members of the NASD must have their employees licensed based on the job functions of those employees. The NASD is the regulatory authority of the broker dealer industry. There are several licenses that the NASD recognizes to work in the securities industry. Some can be obtained before you enter the business. Other licenses need to be "sponsored" by your employing firm. That means, while you can begin studying for sponsored exams, you can not sit for the actual exams until you are hired. All of the NASD exams (once you are registered)can be taken any day of the week (Mon-Fri) at hundreds of testing centers throughout the country.

Licenses to consider that do not require sponsorship

* Series 65 - The Series 65 licenses you as a Registered Investment Advisor. This is an excellent designation to get before you enter the job market. The license itself is for financial advising. Giving investment advice on assets you are overseeing for a fee. It looks very strong on a resume and it is only a 130 question multiple choice exam. Even if you are unsure of the area of finance to work in, this license is a plus. Employers will consider any licensing a bonus over other candidates who have not obtained this certification. As I said, it does NOT require company sponsorship. Get this first.

* Series 63 - The Series 63 covers the Uniform State Law content of the business. The exam is a short test of state laws, registration procedures and terminology. The license is for registered brokers and advisors. Most states require the 63, before representatives can call out of state investors. This license can be obtained on your own and does not require company sponsorship. Brokerage firms will look for this on your resume.

* Series 3 - The Series 3 exam is specific to the futures and commodities market. It is administered through the NASD testing network, but it is a NFA (National Futures Association) license. Most firms that do not work in this market will not consider this license very important or needed, but if you ever land with a futures firm, you will need it. As with any license, it doesn't hurt to get it at all.

There are a few other futures tests (Series 30 and 31), but neither needs to be taken unless you are looking to work specifically with futures - commodity related securities.

Securities license designations such as the Series 7 and Series 6 require company sponsorship before sitting for these exams. Get the licenses you can get on your own. Once you are hired, your company will sponsor you for other exams, if required by your company.

Get the edge in your finance career and begin some securities license training. Do what you can to get your resume placed on top of the pile!

Schools Of Criminology

Criminology is the study of criminal behavior. It is a complex study that will consider the impact of various laws and the way that humans behave to them. It is also the study of crime, why it happens, how it happens and how to stop it from happening again. In criminology, the study is not on the police and corrections systems but more on the scientific understanding of why these things happen.

For those who are considering a degree in this area, it is essential that there be a love of science. An understanding of why is the main research of this study. There are many different fields in which those who study this field will eventually go into. In choosing a college or university in which to attend, students should consider several factors. For example, they should insure that their overall goals in study are available. They should also look at the course of study that is covered to insure that what they want to learn is available and provides the necessary degree to further find employment.

There are a variety of different degrees available to those that are interested including undergraduate and postgraduate criminology studies. There is a large surge in the number of people that are interested in pursuing investigation studies. This is due in part to the wide television coverage of such careers. These television shows have gained acclaim for their ability to portray criminology in its finest which is in that of uncovering crime and understanding it.

Although there are many who enter this field to become something more such as a criminologist or even work in crime scene investigation teams for local, county and federal investigation, most of the study of criminology is that in which individuals will study the behavior of those that break the law and those that have various laws applied to them. The goal is to try and understand just why people act the way that they do is one of the main focuses

Guide to Choosing A Fashion Design School

A successful future in the fashion design industry depends on right choice of school to attend. Although fashion design is not one of the more popular careers to pursue, if your talents lie in this field, there is ample opportunity awaiting you. However, the first thing to hurdle is your choice of school.

When choosing a fashion design school, consider the following factors.

Area of Focus

Look into the nature of the school. Is it solely a fashion design school or does it offer other courses. Is this school well-known for its emphasis on fashion design?

Fashion design schools are few and far between. This makes it harder to choose one that fits your bill. Your first task will be to find a reputable school that will aid you in your training.

Also, look into whether the school participates in any fashion design competition or has accomplished anything of reknown in the industry. This is a sure sign of their commitment to the fashion arts its education among students.

Different schools have different strengths, find a school that plays to your strengths and has specialization in the field of your choice.

For example, you might choose a very well-know fashion design school only to find out that they specialize in childrens’ clothing, while the field of your choice is adult formal wear. This could diffuse your interests, and dull your specialization.

Make sure you know what field the school you are scouting focuses on. This will help you specialize in that area too.

Alumni and Job Placements

Does the college offer job placement assistance? And has the alumni from this school gone on to be successful professionals? Always learn from other’s previous experience. If you see that those that had gone through this school before you received proper training and are successful in their field, that is an indication of a good school.

Most of these reputable schools have numerous connections in the graphic arts industry. They usually offer job placement services. You may want to consider this when choosing a school.

It would do no harm to start looking at the educational background of your admired fashion designer. Checking out the schools they came from will give an idea of the sort of training these artists went through. From here, you may make decisions as to whether you would like to choose the same school as they did.

Curriculum

You must assess whether the curriculum is relevant to you field of study. You may want to compare the curricula of different schools to see which offers the best form of education.

It would also be wise to check the quality of the teaching staff at that school. Having established artists who teach at a fashion design school is also an indication of a good training program.

Student to Teacher Ratio

Ask yourself: how big are the classes and how many teachers and classes are available at this school before you choose it. The more the students the lesser the efficacy of the teacher. However, if there are too few students per teacher, that could tell of a different problem – that of quality. If this is the case, it may be that the school is not popular or is suffering from anemic academic performance.

Accreditation

Accreditation means the school has passed a certain standards of educational quality. Accreditation is performed by the U.S. Department of Education. Fashion design schools must be accredited to prove their level of competence.

Check with the State Postsecondary School Licensing Bureau to see if the college you are investigating is accredited. Also, check National Approval and Accreditation for this concern.

Cost

Some people may proclaim that to obtain their education, they would spare no coin. Unfortunately, it also pays to be practical in your choice of fashion design school. If the school you choose has a tuition rate that is beyond your financial capability, you might find yourself working unable to pursue your studies consistently due to the financial stress which may lead you to look for part-time work.

Scholarships

You might want to consider whether the design school you are looking at offers any scholarships. You also might want to know the terms to them too. Some schools offer scholarships based on academic performance. Some offer them based on fashion design competitions they hold regularly.

Your choice of school is an investment that will last you a lifetime. Proper care and investigation in choosing such is truly important. When you are comfortable with your choice of fashion design schools, you can now chart your path towards a successful career

Hence, whenever somebody has taken good cooking knowledge and skills, we would normally call them chefs. They are, in reality, what the king is to his throne. This means that the chefs are considered to be the highest class of cook with utmost ability and proficiency.

All of these things are not easily achieved. Before they can be acclaimed as chefs, they have to undergo first a rigid and thorough chef training. The Qualifications

Likewise, there are hotels and restaurants that offer chef training also. The best thing about it is that you are most likely hired by the same company after you have finished your chef training. Most restaurants and hotel management find these arrangements very feasible since they will no longer have to go to a tedious manner of posting for job applications, screenings, and hiring applicants.

Besides, you would also require your hired chefs to still undergo additional chef training so that they will fit to your standards. That would be a double cost of expenses for you.

The Skills

Generally, chef training are not just any ordinary cooking lessons that one may learn. This refers to the most advanced level of what every cook may achieve.

In chef training, you not only learn more techniques in cooking but you are already trained in the supervisory and managerial level. This is because you are expected to handle a group of cooks once you get hold of the edge in chef training. In fact, you are not only expected to acquire new skills after finishing chef training but you are also expected to manage your own restaurant or hotel as well.

The Endless Possibilities

Indeed, after finishing chef training, the endless possibility of earning a good living is at hand.

In reality, chefs are very in demand these days. With a growing trend in fast food businesses and restaurants, it is no doubt that you can have a proliferating career once you have finished attending chef training. You have the chance and the opportunity to get hired locally or internationally.

Employment growth in chefs are imminent, especially now that the whole populace is constantly growing, therefore, more people will need the chef’s service.

Vocational Training - the Other School Meat

Many of us have been told that a college degree is necessary in order to land a satisfying career that has a good salary. However, while experts agree that most careers do require postsecondary training or education, statistics show that only a small percentage of jobs will demand a bachelor’s or professional degree. If you are undecided about whether or not attending a four-year college is right for you, what is a reasonable alternative?

A great option to a four-year college is a vocational training program. Vocational training programs offer specialized instruction to help students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a specific job. In addition, these programs often have small class sizes -- which allow for one-on-one communication with the instructor -- and are completed in a much shorter timeframe. Many training programs are also offered on the Internet, enabling you to study from the comfort of your own home and on your own schedule.

There are also an unlimited number of careers that can be had through vocational training. A great job such as working the front desk of a dental office is easily achieved through vocational training. Additionally, vocational training prepares students for immediate employment by focusing only on the material that matters; while a four-year college expects students to take a variety of courses that usually have nothing to do with their interests and end up costing them a lot of wasted time and dollars.

On the front and back end, vocational training is much lower in costs than college tuition. Today, the average price of a four-year college is somewhere around $15,000 per year; while a vocational training institution averages 60-80% less. And the costs don’t end at graduation either. Many college students end up paying back hefty loans that they had to use in order to pay for school – before they even land a job!

In short, it is important to understand now what your choices are for postsecondary education. A great part of graduating high school and becoming a responsible adult is learning to make the decisions that are right for you. So mosey on up to the counter and take a good look at all the options available on the menu before you decide to order what everyone else recommends.

What You Need To Know Before Committing To Vocational Retraining

You’ve thought a lot about the kind of work you want to do. The duties, the pay, the hours, the environment – everything sounds right. According to the newspaper ads, there is a big demand out there. You find a program that sounds really good. You are all ready to sign on the dotted line.

Stop! Before you invest your time, your energy, and a good chunk of your money in this direction, ask some tough questions.

1. Request that the school provide you with placement statistics – these are required by the state for all approved vocational courses. Statistics can be misleading so ask for details – what kind of job did the graduates find, how much did it pay, how long did it take them to find it?

2. Ask for the names and telephone numbers of 6 recent graduates you can contact for feedback. Good schools often have recent graduates visiting on site to share their experiences with current students. If the school refuses to provide such a list, or cannot provide it for whatever reason they give you, red flags should be immediately raised.

3. Is State Licensure or Certification required for this field? If so, what is the school’s passing rate? What is the examination’s pass rate overall? How do they compare?

4. Arrange to audit one or two classes. Evaluate the instructor and the program organization. Talk to the other students about their experience.

5. Visit the placement office and find out what services and support are offered. At a minimum, you should receive a professional resume and multiple job leads. An excellent school will also provide interviewing skill training and employer background information. Find out if the school works consistently with several local employers which indicates that their graduates have been positive hires in the past.

6. Sit down with the Sunday Classifieds and circle employers in the field. Then call them for information. Are new graduates considered or is actual work experience required? Is the school known in the business community and what kind of reputation does it have? Has this company ever hired a graduate of this school? How would the employer recommend that someone enter this field?

If the school comes through with flying colors, move ahead with the knowledge that obtaining a first job after training is always difficult but you have some sources of support.

If your questions have revealed weaknesses in the program, evaluate other schools or consider selecting a different career goal.
